Read Together & Discover
Shared reading: John 15:1, 4-5, 9-12 (KJV).
Teacher context / optional fuller reading: John 15:1-12 (KJV).
Original learning idea: Jesus uses vine-and-branches imagery to teach dependence on him
and love for one another.
Weekly Memory Verse – John 15:12 (KJV)
This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
Echo unchanged phrases: This is my commandment, / That ye love one another, / as I have
loved you.
Prepare for the Adventure – Quick Checklist
Read the full passage; print W1; try the puzzle; use CG2 keys. Read aloud as needed.
Husbandman: vine grower / gardener. Abide: remain. Purgeth: prunes or cleans. Fruit: the picture of
a fruitful life with Jesus. Bridge vv. 2-3,6-8: Jesus teaches cleansing, fruitfulness and the seriousness
of not abiding.
Goals: Identify teacher, connected branch and fruit; map the imagery to Jesus and disciples; choose
a caring action.

1 / EXPLORE THE TEACHING PICTURE
Say: Find teacher, connection and fruit.
Do: Match all panels; trace the branch connection.
Check: Panels 1-3: C, A, B. Jesus teaches (vv. 1,5);
attached branches illustrate abiding (v. 4); fruit
illustrates fruitfulness (v. 5). Entire strip is a
teaching illustration, not a verified garden
location.
2 / LABEL THE VINE PICTURE
Say: Who does each part represent?
Do: Use the bank; point to panel 2 for connection.
Check: Vine: JESUS; branches: DISCIPLES;
husbandman: FATHER. These are roles in Jesus'
teaching image (vv. 1,5), not people turning into
plants.
3 / GROW A CARING CHOICE
Say: How can love become visible in a group?
Do: Sort choices; give one short reason.
Check: L, R, L. Sharing fairly and helping show
care; mocking does not. These applications
connect to v. 12; they do not earn new life or
make people literal grapes.
4 / PUT LOVE INTO PRACTICE
Say: What kind, safe next step could help?
Do: Offer a short reply and one practical action.
Check: Open response: Let us read the clue
together. Offer a hint or take turns reading. Love
includes safe boundaries; no one must accept
harm to prove love.
5 / REMEMBER
Say: read the exact W1/CG1 verse.
Do: echo unchanged phrases.
Check: follow the printed KJV words; listening
counts.
PLAY TOGETHER
Partners make VINE, BRANCHES and
HUSBANDMAN cards. Match each with Jesus,
disciples and Father using vv. 1,5. Explain why
connection matters. No plant supplies needed.
Check: VINE: Jesus; BRANCHES: disciples;
HUSBANDMAN: Father. A branch cannot bear fruit
by itself (v. 4). Cards are labels for the teaching
illustration.
FLEXIBLE LEARNING
For support: Read aloud; offer oral answers,
pointing, a scribe or partner. Model a clue; allow
time. No personal disclosures required.
Extra challenge, optional: Does verse 7 describe
prayer apart from abiding in Jesus and his words?
Answer: No. Read the whole verse; its promise is
linked to abiding. Do not turn it into a guarantee
of getting every wish.
SHORT LESSON / HOMESCHOOL
20-minute essentials: welcome 3; reading 5; tasks
1 and 4 for 6; verse 4; recap/prayer 2. Other tasks
optional.
30-60 minutes: add puzzles, game, retelling and
fuller reading; take breaks.
TAKE HOME & CHECK
Echo the three unchanged memory phrases. Plan
one safe caring action and discuss dependence on
Jesus.
Quick check: Are Jesus and the disciples literally
turning into plants?
Answer: No. Jesus uses a teaching illustration
about abiding and fruitfulness.
Optional praise: thank God for today’s learning;
no music needed.
Teacher reflection: Revisit: __________
ACCURACY & CARE
Imagined garden; no cutting/burning activity.
Fruitfulness is not wealth or popularity. Teach
serious verses gently; never call a learner
worthless.
