Read Together & Discover
Shared reading: Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV).
Teacher context / optional fuller reading: Matthew 4:1-11 (KJV).
Original learning idea: Jesus rejects each temptation with Scripture; we learn to read God's
Word carefully and use it rightly.
Weekly Memory Verse – Psalm 119:11 (KJV)
Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
Related passage: not story dialogue.
Echo unchanged phrases: Thy word have I hid in mine heart, / that I might not sin against thee.
Prepare for the Adventure – Quick Checklist
Read the full passage; print W1; try the puzzle; use CG2 keys. Read aloud as needed.
Temptation: an invitation to do wrong. Pinnacle: a high point of a building. Ministered: cared for.
Context: Jesus fasts forty days and nights and is hungry. Satan's appearance in the art is imagined.
Goals: Match each temptation to Jesus' answer; identify speakers; plan a truthful response.

1 / FOLLOW MATTHEW'S STORY ORDER
Say: Find stones, temple and kingdoms.
Do: Match every panel; identify the setting clue.
Check: Panels 1-3: C, A, B. Stones/bread (vv. 3-4),
temple (vv. 5-7), kingdoms (vv. 8-10). This is
Matthew's order. Art shows refusal, not obeying
the tempter; clothing and settings are imagined.
2 / MATCH JESUS' ANSWERS
Say: Which complete answer meets each
temptation?
Do: Read full verses aloud; match references.
Check: 1-C (v. 4); 2-A (v. 7); 3-B (v. 10). Jesus
answers about God's word, not tempting God, and
worshipping God alone. These are summaries;
read the complete KJV verses without shortening
them.
3 / WHO IS SPEAKING?
Say: Is every use of Bible words a wise use?
Do: Check speakers in context before answering.
Check: S; J; J. Satan speaks v. 6, even while citing
Scripture. Jesus answers in vv. 7 and 10. A
quotation does not make Satan's dangerous
instruction God's command.
4 / PAUSE, CHECK, CHOOSE
Say: What would a truthful next step look like?
Do: Give a short reply and one helpful action.
Check: Open response: Let's tell the truth and ask
for help. A trusted adult can guide repair. Use the
Bible in context; do not invent a verse or treat
recitation as a magic formula.
5 / REMEMBER
Say: read the exact W1/CG1 verse.
Do: echo unchanged phrases.
Check: follow the printed KJV words; listening
counts.
PLAY TOGETHER
Pairs make stones, temple and kingdoms cards.
Find Jesus' matching answer in vv. 4,7,10, read it
completely, then swap reader and clue-finder.
Use paper only.
Check: STONES: v. 4; TEMPLE: v. 7; KINGDOMS: v.
10. Satan speaks vv. 3,6,9; Jesus answers vv.
4,7,10. No jumping, fasting or temptation
reenactment.
FLEXIBLE LEARNING
For support: Read aloud; offer oral answers,
pointing, a scribe or partner. Model a clue; allow
time. No personal disclosures required.
Extra challenge, optional: What happens after
Jesus' final answer in verse 11?
Answer: The devil leaves; angels come and
minister to Jesus. This follows the third answer; it
is not a fourth temptation.
SHORT LESSON / HOMESCHOOL
20-minute essentials: welcome 3; reading 5; tasks
1 and 4 for 6; verse 4; recap/prayer 2. Other tasks
optional.
30-60 minutes: add puzzles, game, retelling and
fuller reading; take breaks.
TAKE HOME & CHECK
Practise the related Psalm unchanged. With an
adult, reread one full answer from Matthew 4;
identify who is speaking.
Quick check: Whose words are in verses 6 and 7?
Answer: Satan's in v. 6; Jesus' in v. 7. Read each
full verse in context.
Optional praise: thank God for today’s learning;
no music needed.
Teacher reflection: Revisit: __________
ACCURACY & CARE
No dangerous dares or fasting challenge. Satan's
quoted words remain his speech. Full KJV answers
are read from the Bible, not cut up for puzzles.
Scripture is not a promise that every temptation
instantly disappears.
