helpers.
Weekly Memory Verse – Exodus 18:24 (KJV)
So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.
Hear the full verse; echo short unchanged phrases. No speed or recitation pressure.
Prepare for the Adventure – Quick Checklist
Read the passage; print W1; check this answer key; try the puzzle.
Counsel: advice. Hearkened: listened and responded. Covetousness: wanting what belongs to
others. Context: Moses has been judging disputes all day.
Goals: recognise the main people or idea; solve the Bible activities with support; choose one helpful
response. Read directions aloud, explain words simply, and welcome partner work.
45-Minute Teaching Plan
0-5 Welcome; introduce the picture and a simple optional prayer.
5-12 Read the short KJV selection together; explain story words.

1 / SPOT THE TEAM PROBLEM
Say: How could the waiting people and Moses
both benefit?
Do: Match each panel, then explain one picture
detail aloud.
Check: Panels 1-3: C, A, B. Long queue: vv. 13-14;
Jethro advises: vv. 17-23; Moses listens and
follows: v. 24. The helpers pictured visualize the
proposed plan; their exact appearance is
imagined.
2 / SEND IT TO THE RIGHT HELPER
Say: Sharing work does not mean every job is
identical.
Do: Write A or B by each task; point to its verse.
Check: 1-B; 2-A; 3-A. Small matters: helpers (v.
22); great matters: Moses (v. 22); teaching laws:
Moses (v. 20).
3 / CRACK THE HELPER CLUE
Say: A good helper needs character as well as
skill.
Do: Decode the word and give one brief example
of honesty.
Check: TRUTH. The helpers are to be men of truth
(v. 21). Trustworthy decisions require honesty;
ability alone is not the whole requirement.
4 / BUILD A TWO-PERSON PLAN
Say: Which two jobs could different people
handle?
Do: Assign one small job to each helper; allow an
oral plan.
Check: Open response: one person stacks books;
another gathers pencils; ask an adult if unsure.
Jobs must be safe, suitable and agreed, with no
heavy lifting.
5 / REMEMBER
Say: read the exact W1/CG1 verse.
Do: echo unchanged phrases.
Check: follow the printed KJV words; listening
counts.
PLAY TOGETHER
On paper, sort pretend case cards: small matters /
great matters / teaching laws. Partners take turns
routing each using activity 2; explain why honesty
matters.
Check: Small matters -> chosen helpers; great
matters -> Moses; teaching laws -> Moses.
Classroom case cards are a model, not historical
court records.
FLEXIBLE LEARNING
For support: Read aloud, pair-read, offer pointing
or a scribe; model one clue. Allow extra time.
Extra challenge, optional: In verse 23, what
condition does Jethro include before the promised
benefit?
Answer: If Moses does this and God commands
him so. Jethro's advice is not a guarantee that any
advice or plan is right.
SHORT LESSON / HOMESCHOOL
20-minute essentials: welcome 3; reading 5; tasks
1 and 4 for 6; verse 4; recap/prayer 2. Other tasks
optional.
30-60 minutes: add puzzles, game, retelling and
fuller reading; take breaks.
TAKE HOME & CHECK
Share one safe home task with permission. Each
person chooses a suitable job; practise the
memory verse without changing its words.
Quick check: Who advised Moses, and which
matters would the helpers judge?
Optional praise: thank God for today’s learning;
no music needed.
Teacher reflection: Revisit: __________
ACCURACY & CARE
Jethro is Moses' father in law. This is advice about
Israel's judges, not permission for children to
judge classmates. Do not turn the qualities into a
popularity ranking.
