Christian Holiday Activity Kits · Free KJV learning
A four-part gratitude gathering for Thanksgiving or any season.
This gathering can take 30–40 minutes or be divided into four short days. You need a KJV Bible, plain paper, and pencils. Adults and children can participate together. It is a discussion and writing activity, not a complete numbered Sunday School lesson or a downloadable illustration pack.
Part 1 · Read before reflecting
Read Psalm 100 (KJV). Invite someone to list the actions the psalm calls for and someone else to list its reasons for praise. Notice that gratitude is directed toward the LORD, not merely toward having pleasant circumstances.
Part 2 · Notice the returning man
Read Luke 17:11–19 (KJV). Retell the account in order: the appeal, Jesus’ instruction, the cleansing, and the return. Identify what the returning man does. Do not combine details from another healing account or give the men names the passage does not supply.
Part 3 · Make gratitude specific
Give each person three paper slips. On one, describe a kindness received. On another, name a person who helped. On the third, write a truth about God found in today’s readings. Someone may draw or dictate instead. Sharing is optional; do not require a public account of private hardship.
Part 4 · Let thanks become action
Choose one person to thank with a specific message. For example, explain what they did and how it helped, rather than writing only a generic compliment. Then choose one practical act of care to offer this week. Do not promise help that your family cannot safely or realistically provide.
Discussion prompts
- What is different about noticing a gift and returning to give thanks?
- Which reason for praise in Psalm 100 remains true on a hard day?
- How can we thank a person without making a comparison that embarrasses someone else?
- What can we do when gratitude and sadness are both present?
Leader’s reading guide
Psalm 100 includes calls to worship, serve, come, know, enter, give thanks, and bless. Its reasons include the LORD’s identity, His relationship to His people, His goodness, mercy, and truth. Luke 17 records ten cleansed and one returning to glorify God and thank Jesus. Use the KJV text for exact wording.
Close gently
Pray briefly, allowing quiet participation. Keep the paper slips in a family envelope if desired. Gratitude does not require denying grief, illness, or an unresolved need; the passages turn attention toward God amid real life.
